1. What is the construction site?

    The project CON STRUCTION SITE ANTISEMITISM develops, implements, and researches a learning tool focused on antisemitism—which is deeply rooted in Viennese society—and its identity-forming aspects. Methodologically, the learning tool takes the form of a participatory practice of contemporary remembrance work, involving various social actors.

  2. What is the goal of the project?

    The learning tool creates spaces to understand how antisemitism is interwoven with various mechanisms of exclusion and poses a fundamental threat to democratic coexistence. Areas of social tension are to be harnessed as learning opportunities.

  3. How does the learning tool work?

    The learning tool consists of mobile boxes that can be stacked on top of one another and used as seating. It is stocked with materials on the history and present-day reality of antisemitism in Vienna, developed through a participatory urban research process. It will be available for use in public spaces, schools, and museums.

  4. How does it address antisemitism?

    The learning tool explores connections and intersections between antisemitism and anti-Muslim discrimination, anti-Slavism, racism, and the exclusion and devaluation of people with migration experiences. Participants also interweave these complex traditions of discrimination in Vienna with historical and recent migration history. We view the points of friction, conflicts, and contradictions that arise in this process as productive and necessary. The aim is to develop shared perspectives on the power of antisemitism and the social dynamics it can trigger.

  5. Who runs the CON STRUCTION SITE?

    The project is developed and implemented by the praxisgemeinschaft hubin/schneider/schmutz and the educational association Lernen in gesellschaftlichen Spannungsfeldern (Learning in Areas of Soical Tension), and is funded by the City of Vienna’s Department of Culture (MA 7), Call 2024: Contemporary Forms of Remembrance. For the development and curation of the Baustelle, the praxisgemeinschaft has teamed up with various experts in the field. Artistic Design: Anna Pech and Moritz Maschke.
